Connecting through conversation

I had a delightful telephone conversation this morning with a perfect stranger.  Now, for some of you, especially you introverts, that may sound like a complete oxymoron. (Ok, I admit it. If I were to list my Top 10 Favorite Things to Do, having a conversation with a stranger probably would not make the cut.) But there was absolutely nothing uncomfortable about this visit.

Want more and better results from your networking investment?

I have a birthday coming up in April so I’ve decided to offer you a special gift:

I felt good about keeping my talk to those three key messages. After all, one of my speaking coaches, Jim Comer, insists three points per presentation is all people can really remember.

Throw away the script

Ever had this happen to you? You’re going along, doing your usual thing, reading articles, popping in on Facebook or Twitter, having conversations with friends or colleagues, listening to the news or a podcast or a speaker you admire, and – BAM! – you experience a common theme. This happens to me a lot. And it happened to me this week.  This time it was all about scripts – and the screaming fact that you should throw them away.

What do I mean by scripts?  Sales scripts. Marketing …
